Cappadocia's landscape was created by the eruption of three volcanoes between 10 and 60 million years ago. Ash and lava hardened into soft tuff formations that were carved out over centuries — first by early Christian communities building underground cities and cave churches, then by Byzantine monks who decorated them with frescoes that survive to this day. These two days cover the core of that story with a local specialist guide and a group small enough to ask questions at every stop.

Day one focuses on the underground cities carved up to ten storeys deep and the rock formations at Uçhisar and Ortahisar. Day two follows the Göreme Open Air Museum's cave churches dating to the 10th century and the pottery workshops of Avanos, where artisans still use the red clay of the Kızılırmak River as their predecessors have done for 4,000 years. Cave hotel stay and all entrance fees included.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best time of year to visit Cappadocia?
April–June and September–October are ideal — comfortable temperatures, full balloon operations, and the landscape at its most colourful. July and August are hot but busy. December–February brings snow, which makes the fairy chimneys particularly dramatic, and balloon flights still operate on clear days. Cappadocia is worth visiting in any season.
Is the hot air balloon included in the price?
The hot air balloon is an optional extra, not included in the base tour price. It costs approximately 180–280 EUR per person depending on the season and operator. We strongly recommend it — the sunrise flight over the valleys is one of the most memorable experiences in Turkey. We arrange it directly through trusted operators.
Where do we stay in Cappadocia?
Your accommodation is in a cave hotel in Cappadocia — rooms carved into the natural volcanic tuff rock that defines the region. The MDC Cave Hotel preserves natural rock walls and arched ceilings while offering modern comfort. Waking up inside the rock and stepping out to watch hot air balloons drift across the valley at sunrise is a Cappadocia highlight in itself.
Can this tour be extended?
Yes. The 2-day Cappadocia tour can be extended to connect with the 7-day Gobekli Tepe Tour from Cappadocia, adding Mount Nemrut, Gaziantep, and the world's oldest temples. It can also be combined with an Istanbul arrival for the 6-day Istanbul and Cappadocia package. Contact us and we'll build the right combination.
What is the group size?
Maximum 8 people. The tour can run for just 2 people as a fully private experience. Small groups move faster through sites and allow your guide to give individual attention at each stop.
How much walking is involved?
Moderate. The Open Air Museum, the underground cities, and the valleys involve 2–3 hours of walking total, on a mix of flat paths and some uneven rock surfaces. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. The pace is relaxed — we never rush a site.
What happens if I need to cancel?
Full refund if you cancel 60 or more days before departure. 50% refund if you cancel 30–60 days before. Credit only for cancellations under 30 days. We strongly recommend travel insurance that covers trip cancellation.
